Destruction Brook Woods

Approximately 35 minutes from Fall River, in Dartmouth, MA, is the Destruction Brook Woods - hiking paths favored by locals for years. The name "Destruction Brook", according to older area residents, is based on the fact that there are patches of quicksand in the brook.

Also, according to older area residents, this property was owned by millionaire David Duff (circa 1920s, 1930s), who groomed these woods for his guests to enjoy outdoor activities.

These paths are still wide and easy to traverse - you might fit your horse and buggy through some of them! - and are used for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, dog-walking, and running. They also seem suitable for winter snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Directions to the woods and hiking maps are available at dnrt.org/destruction-brook-woods/. You will find ample parking and enjoy a beautiful, scenic ride on your way there.

The intertwined paths are marked by colors so you may make your hike as long or short as you wish. Exploring this area is enjoyable during any season - a great excuse to get off the couch and breathe some fresh air!
